Women playwrights unite!
Tayari Jones calls attention to tonight's town hall meeting about the theater establishment's sexist skew against producing works by women playwrights. Novelist and playwright Sarah Shulman is one of the key organizers. I have a lot of respect for Sarah (who I know ever so slightly from the long ago early days of ACT UP), for having repeatedly called attention to how hard it is for lesbian fiction, particularly political lesbian fiction, to find its way to publication and, even harder, to bookstore shelves. A topic with which I am, um, painfully intimate.
